THE FUTURE IS NOW AND THE FUTURE IS YOU STEM SCHOLARSHIPS FOR WOMEN

THE FUTURE IS NOW AND THE FUTURE IS YOU STEM SCHOLARSHIPS FOR WOMEN

Women are enrolling in STEM programs in greater numbers than ever before. In 2022 the estimated number of women attending the Research Science Institute’s (RSI) summer STEM program for high school students is expecting a record number of female participants. For the first time ever, in this program, the females will outnumber the males, with an estimated 55% of participants.

In 2020 45% of those enrolled in engineering, biological sciences, mathematics, and physical sciences studies were women and the numbers keep growing.

There are still more men than women in most fields. Women are more empowered, interested, and incentivized than ever to take their place in the ever-growing STEM fields.

While historically, STEM careers have been stereotyped as male careers, preventing women from taking on these roles or being dissuaded by parents and mentors. Finances pose a serious hindrance as Women own about two-thirds of all student loan debt nationwide, according to the Women’s Association of Colleges of America.

In order to stop these trends and allow more participation in the STEM world, some organizations are enrolling women in STEM scholarships, including scholarships in computer science and information technology. These Scholarships help relieve financial stress for learners during their studies by awarding funds based on academic merit, need, identity, or race.

Below are some women in STEM scholarships for prospective students to look out for:

Microsoft statistical data shows that females that are encouraged by parents or role models are more likely to pursue careers in STEM fields. Even though the numbers aren’t equal, the percentage of women has grown from 8% in 1970 to upwards of 27% in the current workforce. STEM female teachers have increased from 43% in 1988 to 64% in 2012, and women CIOs and CTOs now hold 25% of those positions in the financial sector. Women are coming on strong in STEM fields and STEM scholarships for women are always readily available.
